Entry from: Oslo, Norway Entry Title: “Oslo: On our way to the Fjords” Entry: “After a long train ride, we arrived in Oslo and checked into our seemingly luxurious 2-star hotel (really, we still don’t understand why this hotel was rated so low). It felt especially decadent compared to some of the hostels we had been staying at. With nice clean beds and sheets, our own spacious bath, a flat-screen TV, air conditioning, and free internet, it was an impressive feat for us to pry ourselves away from spending our entire time in Oslo in the hotel room. We eventually forced ourselves to venture out and see the city. We took the subway out to Frogner Park to see the many sculptures by Vigeland, who some consider to be the best European sculptor since Rodan. While the sculptures were nice, some are quite sobering. Afterwards, we walked along Karl Johan Street in search of dinner. Even compared to some of the pricier cities we’ve stopped in like Paris and Venice, we were shocked by the prices. For example, a “modest” restaurant recommended by our hotel, located on a backstreet, served Indian curries starting at each. Resigned to a cheaper dinner, we opted for a local fast-food chain figuring it had to be more reasonable. We ended up with a meal worth at most . We then called in an early night before …
